Look Up and Beyond was founded by Naeema Yaqoob Sajid of Diversity+

Today

We have grown to 10 members, held 6 events, and are now our own entity. Currently, we are gathering resources and collaborators to conduct a first-of-its-kind study into the career progression and retention of female solicitors in the legal industry.

Our vision

Look Up and Beyond is a collaborative project, aimed at better understanding the limitations faced by women in the legal industry and beyond, and working with organisations to implement solutions and break down the barriers that affect female progression and retention.

We provide a gathering point for organisations to dedicate time and effort to achieving a better gender balance in the Scottish legal industry. Together, we will listen, raise awareness, challenge mindsets and ultimately remove obstacles piece by piece. 

Our goals are simple

  • Bring together those working in the legal sector to better support women in their workplace

  • Understand what factors are limiting womens’ progression and causing loss of female talent

  • Explore why at senior leadership level we are not more gender diverse

  • Study the structural and organisational obstacles which impede retention and advancement of women

  • Assist organisations to explore, identify and implement solutions to remove these obstacles

The Confidence Collective (with Glasgow Girls Collective)

The Confidence Collective (with Glasgow Girls Collective)

This event is being held in collaboration between Look Up and Beyond and Glasgow Girls Collective, and features speakers who will discuss their journey with self-image and how positive self-talk features in their life, as well as a mini workshop with small exercises and strategies to take away and practice. ​The keynote speech from Look Up and Beyond will discuss self-image, what this means to you, how its developed through the years, and how have role models played into this. We will also hear from additional speakers Alice Thompson (founder of social bite, psychology insight – growth mindset, very personable), Karen Leigh (mindset and NLP coaching), and Melanie Woods (paralympian).
